Om Juan Carlos
I'm a native Spanish instructor from Cali, Colombia, with a certification for online ELE teaching (Español como Lengua Extranjera - Spanish as a Foreign Language) from ELE Internacional and Universidad Europea Miguel de Cervantes (UEMC), and a TEFL certification from ITTT (International TEFL and TESOL Training) for teaching English. Bachelor in Economics and International Business and master in Marketing, with 12 years of experience in education and 6 years in corporate areas.
I began my career as a language instructor working for 5 years at Berlitz Corporation; first 2 years teaching English in Cali, Colombia and then 3 years in Sao Paulo, Brazil where I taught English and Spanish, and learned to speak Portuguese, fluently. I also have a B1 level of German.
Personally, I am extremely respectful, very friendly, cultured, and easygoing. I have a great sense of humor; I love to laugh and make other people laugh. My greatest passion is traveling, getting to know new places and people, learning from them, their culture and way of seeing the world. I've been lucky enough to have visited 9 countries on 3 different continents, which is little compared to many, but I know that I will visit many more!
I have an unlimited intellectual curiosity, multiple interests, and excellent oral expression, which allows me to be a great conversationalist. I know how to listen and ask good questions. I love watching series, movies, and documentaries on many streaming platforms, so I have lots of recommendations for you!

My lessons are taught 100% in Spanish unless the student is a true beginner. I use various online resources, such as:
- YouTube videos ranging from documentaries from DW Español, BBC News Mundo or El Espectador and short animated educational videos from TED Ed en Español, to videos from channels like Vice en Español and the Spanish adventure traveler "Lethal Crysis", to create lessons focused on oral communication, new vocabulary and specific grammar topics that are shown in those videos.
- Netflix docuseries such as: "History 101", "Explained" or "The future of" and Netflix original series like Colombian "Wild District" or Mexican "House of Flowers".
- Interactive grammar exercises for class practice and homework.
- Readings from Instituto Cervantes and articles and videos from El Pais newspaper.
- And original lessons focused on my students' interests and career goals.
You truly get personalized, professional attention, and dedication from me. My methodology is inspired by the natural method of language learning. It consists of making the acquisition of the new language similar to the way in which we learned our native language as children. Back then, our aim was to speak fluently and spontaneously, gradually developing communication skills that would allow us to "make ourselves understood" and achieve what we wanted. I specialize in students over 18 years old.
