Om Mike
Since the late 1970s, I have been teaching, coaching and mentoring Scandinavian business professionals in Stockholm, as well as government department officials, politicians, union bosses and military personnel. While back in the UK during the 'nineties, I worked at managerial level with financial services. I have worked with both employees but also with private individuals, children and adults.

With individuals, the first priority is to identify the nature of the difficulties the speaker or writer is experiencing. This will depend on how the individual is using the language, for example in oral or written communication. What are the user's key objectives? Are there structural issues (grammar)? Is selection of appropriate lexis poor? How confident does the user feel? Is there "baggage" created my negative previous experiences? Having agreed objectives, a plan is set up and followed carefully. Instruction, practice and drilling are provided. No two individuals are the same. Progress is carefully monitored and measured. At the end of the course, an assessment is made and follow-up recommendations made. For groups the same basic process takes place, but of course each and every individual's needs has to be assessed and acted upon, but with agreement from the entire group on the objectives to be prioritised and remedial measures employed.

Not with respect to the level of the student, but if there is travel of more than one hour in each direction, I would require a measure of compensation. Cancellation notice ideally 48 hours.
