Om Altay
I'm a non-native English speaker like most of my previous students which helps me understand their struggles moving on to a new language. I have studied countless hours of literature for both personal and professional reasons and enjoy the subject of English beyond simply teaching it. I am however still young compared to some other language teachers. This is why I can relate to my student's hobbies and daily lives even more so. This also helps the students see me as less of a teacher and more of a study friend making it easier for them to learn willingly.

I come to my lessons prepared with material and a specific study schedule made around the student's needs and wants. My lessons range between 1-2 hours but if I am not busy after the class, I will stay extra if the student wants me to. I have provided tutoring before for my peers and friends who have given positive feedback on its effectiveness. During the lesson, I like to incorporate a reward and relief system that I designed myself. This system includes a heavily focused 30-minute study and a 10-minute break to relieve the mind and get it ready for another 30-minute session. After we have finished all of the material, I will take a lesson or two to revise it all before testing you.
As I see your progress, I will come to physical lessons with rewards! Rewards such as sweets for younger kids and coffee for my older students help build a bond between me and my student while also making them enjoy the lessons more. Connecting enjoyment with learning is a key part of becoming a good student and learner, the more you enjoy learning the more you want to do it. This is the primary reason why games are addicting for most people, they are based on a reward system which is also connected to the dopamine release in our brains.
If there is good weather, we will preferably have the lesson outside and I will teach using flashcards, presentations, and by speaking. If the weather isn't suitable for an outside lesson, we can meet at a library, your apartment, or wherever else the student might feel comfortable.
Most importantly I strive to make my lessons a place where students don't come because their parents forced them to, but willingly because they enjoy it. I approach the lessons more as a friend to the student rather than a teacher making sure to not be super strict. I ask questions to my students in the class to know what they like to do and what they are interested in. This way I can make connections in class to those topics, which helps students engage with their studies.
I teach ages 12 and above since my material and teaching methods might not resonate with younger students.
My methods and style are all based on scientific research and personal experience but can change depending on the student.
I provide not only good material for study but also a good approach to a student's needs specifically in order to provide a great experience and an effective education.
