Om Alexandra
Hello!
I am Alexandra Velkova, and I am currently a student at Lund University doing a bachelor's program in Biomedicine. I am 19 years old, but do not let my young age fool you! I have had experience in language teaching from my middle school years, and I thoroughly enjoy what I do.
My dream is actually to become a teacher one day, and I strive to inspire students to succeed and excel in their education.
I am originally from Bulgaria, and I have moved here, in Sweden, to study towards a better future.
I am currently learning Swedish myself, so I would love to exchange some knowledge about Swedish culture, life, history, cuisine and much more!

When it comes to teaching, I strongly believe in the full immersion of the student in the language. This is how I learned German! During our lectures, we will converse only in English, and of course, in the beginning it may be challenging, but I guarantee that this method helps students improve not only their speaking abilities, but also abilities to grasp concepts and relay information in foreign languages.
The lessons can be of various lengths, but the best length for a lesson was proven to be around 50 minutes, including a break of 10 minutes between two sessions of 20 minutes. The human brain is capable of keeping maximal focus on one task for approximately 20 minutes, so I am utilising this knowledge to create an optimal environment for learning. My lessons usually take 50-60 minutes, but if there is a need for additional explanations or excursuses, I am more than ready to accommodate!
I have taught foreign languages before to people of all ages. I have had students learning English at ages 5-16, as well as adults (ages 35-62). I taught my own mom! Additionally, I had foreign students (34-47) learning the language of the country I was born in, Bulgaria.
Because of this, I believe that working with people of various ages is an important skill that has to be honed, so I am open to sharing my experience with all kinds of students!
