Om Damme
I am a multilingual, qualified teacher from the Canary Islands, with a passion for languages, travel, and intercultural learning.
I hold Spanish university teaching qualifications — two university degrees —, QTS in the UK, USA WES credential evaluation, and additional specialist training, including in teaching Spanish and English as second/ foreign languages.
I have been teaching since 2007, and have experience in the UK, USA, Spain, New Zealand and Sweden. I have worked with children, teenagers and adults in private lessons, private schools and public schools. In Swedish schools (IES Sverige), I have taught Idrott och Hälsa, Musik and Spanska in Stockholm.
As a multilingual person, I have personally experienced the process of learning foreign languages from scratch and progressing to advanced levels, including C2 in some of them. This gives me a first-hand understanding of the challenges language learners face, including common “false friends” and difficulties related to their language of origin. My polyglot background also allows me to share useful tips and strategies for language learning.
Having lived in almost a dozen countries, I have experienced different cultures, languages and educational environments first-hand. I have also experienced what it means to move abroad and adapt to a new country and culture. I am happy to share this perspective with students who are curious about other cultures or preparing for life in a new country, including practical insights about cultural differences, communication and things to keep in mind when relocating.
I am patient, approachable and flexible, and I genuinely enjoy helping people discover not only a language, but also the culture and world behind it.

Whether you are starting Spanish from scratch or want to improve your fluency, vocabulary and understanding, my lessons are adapted to your level, goals and interests. I teach children, teenagers and adults at all levels, and I aim to make lessons personalized, flexible and fun.
Communication first: My lessons are mainly oral and conversation-based, with a strong focus on practical communication and the real use of Spanish. We will work on speaking and listening from the beginning, while also developing reading, writing, vocabulary, expressions, pronunciation, spelling and verb conjugation. Grammar is introduced and explained when it helps you understand how the language works.
Real Spanish and culture: We work with everyday and social situations, music, sport, leisure activities and other cultural topics. I teach Spanish from Spain, particularly the Canary Islands (arguably the nicest accent for foreign learners ) — as well as Mainland Spain and Latin American varieties. We can explore accents, expressions and the ways Spanish changes from one place to another.
Personalized feedback: I give clear, direct and practical feedback so you know what you are doing well and exactly what you can improve. Depending on your goals, we can focus more on fluency, pronunciation, comprehension, vocabulary, grammar or accuracy.
Lessons are primarily online. I may also offer occasional intensive, camp-style courses in person in Stockholm, and potentially in other locations in Sweden or Spanish-speaking countries.
