Om Tasmin Islam
Hi, I'm Tasmin! I'm originally from Bangladesh and currently based in Gothenburg, Sweden, where I'm pursuing my MSc in Accounting and Financial Management at the University of Gothenburg. Before moving to Sweden, I worked in finance and treasury, most recently as a Manager of Treasury & Investments.
Alongside my professional background, I've always had a passion for teaching — I spent 4 years working as a private English tutor in Bangladesh, helping students build confidence and fluency in English. I hold an IELTS score of 7.5, and English is one of several languages I speak, alongside Bengali (my native language) and Hindi. I'm also currently learning Swedish, so I understand firsthand what it's like to be a language learner!
I enjoy combining my analytical background with a patient, personalized teaching style, and I love helping students reach their goals — whether that's everyday conversation, academic English, or exam preparation.

How I view private lessons and how I teach:
I believe private lessons work best when they're tailored to the individual — everyone learns English differently, and a private setting lets me adapt to each student's pace, goals, and interests rather than following a fixed curriculum. My approach is interactive and conversation-based, focusing on building real confidence in using English rather than just memorizing rules.
Techniques and methods:
I combine structured grammar and vocabulary building with a lot of speaking practice, role-play, and real-life scenarios (ordering at a restaurant, job interviews, writing emails, etc.). For exam preparation (like IELTS), I use practice tests, timed writing tasks, and targeted feedback on common mistakes. I also encourage students to read and listen to authentic English content (articles, podcasts, videos) and we discuss it together to build comprehension and natural expression.
Lesson length:
I typically offer 60-minute sessions, which I find long enough to cover a topic in depth without losing focus, though I can adjust to 45- or 90-minute sessions depending on the student's needs.
Qualifications and experience:
I have 4 years of experience as a private English tutor in Bangladesh, teaching students of different levels and backgrounds. I hold an IELTS score of 7.5, and I'm fluent in English. I'm currently based in Gothenburg pursuing an MSc in Accounting and Financial Management, and I also bring strong communication skills from my professional background in finance.

I teach students of all levels, from beginners to advanced, and all ages — including adults looking to improve for work or daily life, students preparing for exams like IELTS, and younger learners wanting to build a strong foundation in English.
