My Approach to Private Tutoring and How I Teach
As a recent International Baccalaureate (IB) graduate who studied Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (AA) and Physics at Higher Level, I offer tutoring that is both relatable and effective for current students. I understand the challenges of the IB program firsthand, and I tailor my sessions to help students not only understand the content but also develop the exam techniques and confidence needed to succeed.
Techniques and Methods I Use
I focus on building strong foundational understanding through step-by-step explanations, using simple language and real-world examples—especially for abstract or complex topics. I prioritise active learning by encouraging students to solve problems with guided support, identify patterns, and develop their own strategies. For exam preparation, I incorporate past paper practice, timed exercises, and strategies for command terms and mark schemes. I also help students break down difficult IA and EE questions in both math and physics.
Lesson Duration
Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, with the option for 90-minute sessions depending on the topic or student preference. I structure lessons to include concept review, guided practice, independent work, and a short Q&A or recap at the end.
Qualifications and Experience
Having recently completed the IB, I’m up to date with the syllabus and assessment criteria. I achieved strong results in both Math AA and Physics HL and have been informally tutoring classmates and younger students throughout my final two years of school. My experience makes me especially good at explaining difficult content in a way that clicks with students who are currently navigating the same program.
Who My Lessons Are For
My lessons are ideal for IB students studying Math AA (SL) and Physics (SL or HL), especially those in their first or second year of the diploma. I also support students in MYP or pre-IB courses who want to build a strong foundation before entering the IB. I work well with students aged 14–18 and adapt my style based on their current level of understanding, whether they’re struggling or aiming for a top grade.
